Movie Information

After the release of Vishnu Vinyasam just a week earlier, actor returns with another film titled Mrutyunjay, this time stepping into the crime-thriller genre. Known mostly for his entertaining and comedy-based films, Sree Vishnu experiments with a more serious and investigative role in this suspense drama. Let’s see how the film performs.

Story:

Jay, also known as Mrutyunjay (Sree Vishnu), works for a newspaper called Swechcha, where he collects obituary advertisements. Though efficient in his job, Jay dreams of joining the crime bureau. However, his lack of experience prevents him from getting that opportunity.

One day, while gathering details for an obituary advertisement, Jay suspects that the death might not be natural. His curiosity pushes him to investigate the case on his own. As he digs deeper, he uncovers shocking clues that eventually lead him to confront a powerful and dangerous individual. What happens next forms the core of the story.

Performances:

delivers a refreshing performance in a serious role, moving away from his usual comedic style. His portrayal of a determined journalist investigating a mysterious death is convincing and engaging.

The film also features a strong antagonist. Veer Aryan performs effectively, and the character is written with enough intelligence to challenge the protagonist. The mind game between the hero and villain in the second half stands out as one of the film’s highlights.

appears as a police officer and does a neat job. Her presence adds strength to the narrative, especially during the action moments towards the climax. Another positive aspect is the absence of an unnecessary romantic subplot, which keeps the focus on the thriller elements.

Drawbacks:

Despite being a sincere attempt, Mrutyunjay does not reach its full potential due to certain issues. The opening portions feel slow, and the introduction of the hero and his background lacks excitement.

The first half suffers from pacing problems, especially in scenes involving the protagonist and his friends. The story begins to pick up momentum only around the pre-interval point, after which the narrative becomes more engaging.

Additionally, the core concept of the film is not entirely new. Audiences expecting a highly original thriller might find the storyline somewhat familiar.

Technical Aspects:

delivers a strong background score, which effectively elevates the suspense in key sequences. His music adds intensity to the film’s mood.

Cinematographer Vidya Sagar Chinta captures the visuals neatly, and the production values remain decent throughout. Editor keeps the film reasonably crisp, although the first half could have been tighter.

Director Sri Hussain Shah Kiran handles the cat-and-mouse game between the hero and villain quite well in the latter half. However, a more gripping first half would have significantly improved the film’s overall impact.

Verdict:

Overall, Mrutyunjay turns out to be a decent crime thriller. impresses with his attempt at a serious role, while and Veer Aryan support the narrative effectively. The second-half mind game between the hero and villain keeps the audience engaged.

However, the slow first half and familiar storyline slightly reduce the film’s overall impact. Still, viewers who enjoy crime thrillers can give this film a try.
