Nalbari (Assam): In a rather unconventional celebration of newfound freedom, a man from Assam’s Mukulmua village in Nalbari district marked his divorce by bathing in 40 litres of milk — symbolizing, as he described it, his “rebirth.”
The man, identified as Manik Ali, had been entangled in a tumultuous relationship with his wife, who had reportedly eloped with her lover not once, but twice. Each time, she returned, prompting Manik to make repeated efforts to reconcile for the sake of their child.
“I tried my best to keep the family together, especially for my child,” said Manik Ali, speaking to local media. “But when the same betrayal kept repeating, I realized I had to put an end to the emotional turmoil.”
With the divorce finally granted, Manik decided to mark the occasion not with bitterness, but with what he called a personal ritual of renewal. In the presence of villagers, he performed a symbolic milk bath, stating that it represented his cleansing from the past and a fresh beginning.
“From today, I start a new life,” he said. “This is my rebirth.”
