Delhi: Amid growing concerns over a spate of sudden deaths in Karnataka’s Hassan district, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a clear statement, refuting allegations that the COVID-19 vaccine is responsible for the fatalities.
Responding to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent remarks—where he raised questions about a possible link between the COVID-19 vaccine and 23 cardiac-related deaths reported in a span of just one month—the central government has firmly denied any direct connection between the vaccine and the deaths.
In its official clarification, the Union Health Ministry stated that available evidence does not support any causal relationship between COVID-19 vaccines and sudden cardiac deaths. The ministry emphasized that such incidents are more likely to be the result of pre-existing health conditions or post-COVID complications rather than the vaccination itself.
The statement further highlighted that studies conducted across the country have shown no increase in the risk of sudden death among individuals aged 18–45 due to COVID-19 vaccines. The Ministry stressed that various health examinations and clinical evaluations support this conclusion.
Health officials reiterated that while every sudden death is deeply unfortunate and deserves investigation, it is important not to draw premature conclusions without scientific backing. The Ministry assured that it continues to monitor vaccine safety rigorously and will take appropriate steps if any credible risk emerges.
