Kolkata: The Kolkata High Court has directed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to pay a monthly alimony of ₹4 lakh for the maintenance of his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter. As per the court order, ₹1.5 lakh is to be paid to Hasin Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for the upkeep of their daughter.
Reacting to the verdict, Hasin Jahan said the amount sanctioned is quite low considering Shami’s current status and earnings. “We had requested the court for up to ₹10 lakh per month. This ₹4 lakh is much less than what someone of Shami’s stature can afford,” she remarked.
Shami and Hasin Jahan have been separated since 2018. She further stated, “We made this plea seven years ago. Since then, his income and expenses have only increased. Just like how he lives his life in comfort, I and my daughter also have the right to maintain the same standard of living.”
Mohammed Shami has not yet publicly responded to the court’s order regarding the alimony.
