Trending: RSS Chief Sparks row with Call for Politicians to Retirement at 75…!

New Delhi, July 11, 2025:

In a statement that has stirred political circles and sparked widespread speculation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat has suggested that political leaders should voluntarily retire upon reaching the age of 75. Calling for a culture of dignified exit and generational transition in public life, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of setting a precedent for younger leadership.

“After 75, leaders should gracefully step aside and allow others the opportunity to serve,” Bhagwat said, addressing a gathering of swayamsevaks earlier this week. His comments, though not directed at any individual, have raised eyebrows across the political spectrum—particularly given that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to turn 75 in just two months.

Political analysts and observers were quick to interpret the statement as a subtle message aimed at the country’s top leadership. The timing of the remarks, coming as the BJP-led NDA begins its third term, has only added fuel to the speculation.

While the RSS has traditionally refrained from direct interventions in government affairs, Bhagwat’s remarks underscore the Sangh’s long-standing view on age and leadership roles. It is worth noting that the BJP’s own constitution stipulates a retirement age of 75 for ministers—an unwritten rule that was relaxed in Modi’s case.

So far, there has been no official response from the Prime Minister’s Office or the BJP leadership. However, insiders suggest the comments may trigger internal discussions about succession planning and long-term organizational reforms.
