Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha is silently crafting a parallel political narrative within the party, steering her own course post-incarceration in the Delhi liquor case. Long known for projecting Jagruthi as a cultural platform — even calling it one of KCR’s “two eyes” — Kavitha has, for the most part, stayed away from mainstream party activities. But now, with calculated political maneuvers, she is reasserting her presence, especially through BC and Bahujan narratives.
A recent flashpoint within BRS came when Kavitha reportedly penned a letter to her father and party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, expressing discontent over not receiving due importance. The leaked letter triggered intense speculation both within party circles and among the public. Rumors of her planning a separate party or even joining the Congress gained traction. However, Kavitha put such speculation to rest, stating she has no intentions of quitting BRS.
She clarified that she has done what the BRS has failed to do — through Jagruthi. She questioned why BRS leaders remained silent when notices were issued to KCR in the Kaleshwaram project case, taking an indirect dig at her own party. Despite maintaining a formal distance from BRS operations, Kavitha has continued her activism through Jagruthi, forcing the top leadership — KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao — into an uncomfortable position.
* A Strategic Move*
Kavitha is laying out a strategic blueprint for her political future. For the first time in Jagruthi’s 17-year history, she is forming grassroots committees — from villages to metropolitan areas — indicating a shift from cultural to political consolidation. Her focus is two-fold: rural Telangana and Hyderabad’s urban bastions, especially Greater Hyderabad.
On her return from a recent tour in Nizamabad, she immediately attended the funeral of MLA Maganti Gopinath before setting off again — a sign of her relentless drive. She is holding continuous meetings, forming alliances with social organizations and community leaders, planning to convert these into affiliated wings of Jagruthi. Sources suggest that by the next election, Kavitha aims to transform Jagruthi into a full-fledged political force.
*Special Focus on Greater Hyderabad*
In preparation for the coming three months, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha is reportedly ready with a detailed political action plan. Until now, she has primarily engaged with the public through Telangana Jagruthi by organizing the Bathukamma festival. However, with the upcoming festive season, Kavitha is gearing up with a more focused strategy to expand her reach.
Festivals like Bonalu in Ashadam, Vinayaka Chaviti, Devi Navaratri, and Bathukamma are expected to be leveraged as platforms for public engagement across the state. In line with this, she has initiated the formation of Basti Nidralu and Basti Committees in urban areas. Similarly, efforts are being made to organize Palle Nidralu and strengthen village-level committees in rural regions. As part of this campaign, planning is already underway to establish these local committees in several key areas.
*Crucial Role in Upcoming By-election*
Sources indicate that Kavitha is planning a significant role for Jagruthi in the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election. She is reportedly considering taking charge of a division as part of her direct involvement. Accordingly, she is focusing on key divisions within the Jubilee Hills constituency—Erragadda, Borabanda, Vengal Rao Nagar, Rahmat Nagar, Yousufguda, Shaikpet, and Somajiguda. Committee formation efforts are already in progress in several of these areas.
In line with the campaign’s grassroots approach, the slogan “Galli Chinnadi… Gareebolla Katha Peddadi” (The street may be small, but the poor people’s story is big) is being promoted as a central theme. Additionally, Kavitha is said to be considering revamping this slogan into a modern, trending song to strike a chord with today’s youth and urban electroate.
*Kavitha Eyes Khairatabad in 2028 Assembly Elections*
Reliable sources reveal that Kavitha is considering contesting the next Assembly election from Khairatabad — a constituency known for its political significance and ministerial history. Leaders like K. Vijayarama Rao and M. Ramachandra Rao, who previously won here, served as ministers, giving the seat a strategic allure.
The constituency’s social composition and its over 100 slums make it ideal for Kavitha’s BC-Bahujan outreach. With simultaneous focus on Jubilee Hills and Khairatabad, she believes electoral success in these two urban strongholds will cement her position. She’s also reportedly planning to relaunch her earlier political anthem “Galli Chinnadi, Gareebolla Katha Peddadi” with a modern spin, resonating with current sentiments.
